HEM beam
The behavior of the pillars made of beams with H section (HEA, HEB, HEM) depends on the following factors:
- length of the pillar
- application of the moments on the bar
- side connections (if any)
The product is used for metal constructions with large opening:
- exhibition halls
- museums
- gyms
- air stations
- hangars
- stadiums
- garages
In structures made of metal frames, the beams are subject to bending forces, not torsion. Among the usual sections for such beams, there are the HEM profiles, shaped so as to withstand bending forces along the strong axis of the section.
Metal constructions have various advantages such as very good behavior in seismic actions, due to the low weight of this structure and the specific steel ductility.
Probably the greatest disadvantage is the low corrosion resistance, which requires rigorous protection and maintenance measures.
