Spontaneous protest at the ArcelorMittal – Galati steel plant

Approximately 700 employees at the steel plant in Galati gathered, on Tuesday, inside the unit. In front of the administrative headquarters. Dissatisfied with the salary offer made by the management within the negotiations of the Collective Labor Agreement (CCM).

Protesters from the steel plant in Galati forced the door from the entrance to the administrative headquarters. And a window was broken in the crowd. The steel workers had no one to talk to, because no representative of the administration was in the headquarters.

According to the spokesperson of the only representative union in the combine, the AMG Steelworkers Union, Vasile Crisan, the protest was a spontaneous one, but the union understands the dissatisfaction of the employees and is decided to resort, in the future, to all legal union struggle measures, if the administration of the combine does not will comply with requests for a 20% salary increase.

The administration of the complex did not comment on Tuesday’s incident. However, in a press release, he specified that: „ArcelorMittal Galati expresses its decision to continue the dialogue with the social partners. In the framework established by the law, to ensure the sustainability of the complex. But also the future of jobs, in the new economic reality”.

The collective bargaining agreement should have ended on January 15, but because the union did not agree with the salary offer, the parties agreed to extend the discussions until January 26.
