The Libery Galati Iron and Steel Plant will produce steel using electric arc furnaces

The Libery-Galati Iron and Steel Plant, owned by the Liberty Steel Group, will produce steel using electric arc furnaces. A series of equipment from South Korea to be transferred to the Galati platform.

On November 25, 2022, the Liberty Steel Group announced the signing of an agreement for the acquisition of the Dongbu steel platform and related equipment from the South Korean steel company KG Steel. Steel producer Liberty has operations in Great Britain, Europe, USA, Australia and Asia.

The Dongbu steel platform in Dangjin, South Korea, consists of:

– two modern furnaces with electric arc, Consteel, of 160 tons;

– two casting machines for thin slabs with a single wire, vertically curved;

– a hot strip rolling machine.

Following this acquisition, the plant in Galati will switch from the production of steel in the furnace to the production with the help of electric arc furnaces.

Extremely efficient and with a significantly reduced level of emissions, the electric arc furnace uses scrap metal as raw material. At the same time, by eliminating some technological stages specific to classic furnaces, carbon emissions will be considerably reduced.
