The high strength steel used to create strong, light and sustainable products

The high-strength steel is used by BelAZ, a Belarusian manufacturer of transport and earthworks equipment. Steel is a material that is used in our daily lives. There are new innovative ways to use it, being thought of and realized daily.

The high-strength steel – Belaz 75710

All over the world, the need to optimize production in mines and quarries is essential. And so BelAZ came up with the idea of building the biggest dump truck in the world, Belaz 75710.

After examining ways to make this machine a reality, BelAZ designed a new axle suspension and rolling bearings using high-strength steel. The use of this steel allows an increased load capacity through the uniform distribution of weight on the front and back of the vehicle.

The resistance, versatility and flexibility of steel were essential in creating the largest truck of its kind in the world. Belaz 75710 can transport 450 tons at a speed of 40 km/h. When it is fully charged and can withstand extreme weather conditions.

WELDOX 700F high-strength steel in 110 mm and 125 mm plates, supplied by Worldsteel member company SSAB, was used, along with a unique design, which offered considerable productivity advantages (a payload 20% higher than a conventional truck ).

As a recognition of this innovative use of steel. BelAZ won the „Swedish Steel Prize 2014”, a prize offered by SSAB. This project highlights how steel can be used to develop lighter and more sustainable products for the future.

All steel products can be fully reused at the end of their life cycle, an infinite number of times, without losing their properties. For these characteristics, which highlight its high degree of compatibility with the environment, steel can be considered a „green” product from all points of view.
