Tata Steel has unveiled a new high-tech robotic welding line at the Automotive Service Centre in Wednesfield. West Midlands – the largest in the UK, which can weld more than a thousand car parts every hour.

One of the few in the world, the new robotic welding line triples the production capacity of custom-welded semi-finished products – special sheets of steel sheets, of different thicknesses.

These steel parts – often used for car door panels. They allow manufacturers to make lighter vehicles with lower emissions.

„The new production line is the fastest, largest and most efficient in the UK. More than a thousand auto parts can be welded every hour. The steel products are delivered to car manufacturers in the UK. And new orders were won in Germany, France and the Netherlands.” A Tata Steel representative said.

This line is the latest stage of a £20 million investment that Tata Steel has made in the plant that employs 450 people and also supplies steel for key markets such as construction, mining and excavation machinery, as well as household appliances, the company said, adding that the new production line does not have an impact on employment levels.
