Mild steel square bar class 42CrMo4

Our company, H Metal, distributes mild steel square bar class 42CrMo4. It is an improved steel, strengthened by chromium-molybdenum alloying.

Abbreviations:

• +AR – As Rolled, only laminated, without any additional improvement;
• +QT – Modified by heat treatment;
• +C – Calibrated;
• +SH – Peeled.

Chemical composition steel 42CrMo4

C % 0.38 – 0.45;

And % max 0.40;

Mn % 0.60 – 0.90;

P % max 0.025;

S% max 0.035;

Cr % 0.90 – 1.20;

Mo % 0.15 – 0.30.

This brand of steel is successfully used in the car construction industry:

– the manufacture of high resistance parts from compressors, turbines;

– working elements of heavy surface and underground machinery;

– parts of agricultural machines.

Welding

The 42CrMo4 class steel has a reduced weldability due to the high sensitivity to cracking.

If the welding process is required, it is recommended to preheat the metal surface to a temperature of 200-300°C. This temperature must not be exceeded because there is a risk that the chrome layer will be damaged. And after the welding operation is finished, the cooling is carried out under supervision, as slowly as possible, to avoid the appearance of cracks in the material.

Corrosion

The mild steel square bar class 42CrMo4has poor corrosion resistance and will eventually rust if not properly treated. An anti-corrosion treatment will be applied to it, depending on the final use.
